PCN Name: Carlisle Healthcare
Network Population: (as of Jan 23) 38,750

Overview of Area: Carlisle Healthcare is the largest Practice in North Cumbria we currently cover just under half the population of the Carlisle urban area. We have recently opened a brand new site on Locke Road, though this has sadly meant the closure of three of our old buildings Brunswick Medical Practice, Eastern Way and Arnside House.

Carlisle Healthcare’s Mission is to improve the health, well-being and lives of those we care for. Our Vision is to work in partnership with our patients and staff to provide the best Primary Care services possible working within local and national governance, guidance and regulations.

Clinical Directors:  Dr Robert Westgate & Dr Alan Edwards
Operational Lead: Tracey Darrington

Dr Robert Westgate said: "Primary Care North Cumbria is an emerging collaboration and aims to support resilience across primary care by being a platform to aid recruitment, service development, support, training and wellbeing for our primary care organisations.

"This collaboration has grown from long established working relationships across and between NHS general practices in North Cumbria, which have been strengthened following the formation of Primary Care Networks. We serve a population of approximately 320,000 people across our eight Primary Care Networks.

"Work is ongoing with our health and care partners in community pharmacy, general ophthalmic, and dental services to bring all of our primary care together under the single umbrella of Primary Care North Cumbria  -  to facilitate better conversations between professionals and more joined up care for patients."

Did you know.jpgWe have 162 staff working at Carlisle Healthcare and were one of the first Practices in Cumbria to employ both Pharmacists and Paramedics. All our staff work across our three sites, Locke Road, St Paul’s and North Carlisle, to ensure that each site is able to offer the same service provision across the city.

The Practice works closely with our community colleagues and have developed a frailty team that works with our District Nurse & Therapy Colleagues to look after all our housebound patients as well as those patients that live in Residential or Care Homes.
